Pall® Filters for Pharmaceutical Air and Gas Service Efficiently Pre-Filter Compressed and Pressurized Gases

Pall® filters for pharmaceutical air and gas service are ideal for use in a disposable format, glass fiber, polypropylene, cellulose and porous stainless steel. Due to their versatility, Emflon PFR products can be valuable to any design of experiments. Designed to aid in contaminant removal, Emflon PFR products are optimized for use in a variety of conditions, including high temperature and oxygen environments, pre-filtration of compressed or pressurized gases, non-sterile applications, and sterile air or gas filtration.

 

Emflon II

Emflon II is for gamma irradiation. The Emflon II membrane is a modified-PVDF porous membrane with outstanding performance characteristics. When the filter medium is pleated into a high-surface-area autoclave vent filter, a filter unit has high flow capacity and considerable mechanical strength.

 

Emflon PFA and HDC II

These products are for non-sterile applications including intermediate product vessel venting, large-scale fermenter air, autoclave vacuum break and biopharmaceutical instrument air. Emflon PFA filters contain a proprietary pleated hydrophobic PTFE membrane and are designed for the removal of micro-organisms and particles from air and gases. They offer high-flow rates to ensure low installation and operating costs. They have been validated for bacterial removal in air at an aerosol challenge level of 107 Brevundimonas diminuta ATCC 19146 per 254 mm (10 in.) length cartridge. They can be steam sterilized repeatedly in situ to provide long service life.

 

Emflon HTPFR

These filter cartridges are for high temperature filtration and oxygen environments. They also find wide use in negative-pressure applications such as sterile filtration of vacuum break lines on lyophilizers and autoclaves. They can be used in sterile and non-sterile venting of tanks and containers. High-temperature applications include autoclave, fermentation inlet air, aseptic packaging/blow-fill-seal and hot Water for Injection (WFI) tank vents. Designed for Water Intrusion Test (WIT), this premium product features oxidation-resistant materials of construction and a proprietary, Pall-manufactured PTFE membrane. It is validated with B. diminuta at >107 cfu/cm2 and fully validated under stringent microbial, phage and particulate challenge tests. Optimized for multi-cycle autoclave and in situ steam, it features high flow rates, low pressure drops, laser-etched part/serial number and 2D matrix code.

 

The benefits of this technology are wide-ranging. No is alcohol required, and it contributes to long service life in hot air and vent applications while also being suitable for oxygen-enriched fermenter applications. A hydrophobic membrane, subject to rigorous Pall manufacturing and quality controls, and secure supply source is key to its durable operation.

 

This advanced product provides sterile air/gas under wet and dry conditions, and meets cGMP sterilizing-grade filter requirements. It improves microbial safety and mitigates virus contamination risk. Robust construction offers enhanced steam resistance and allows for smaller filtration systems, reducing installation and operational costs. It is easily traceable, as product information can be read or scanned with a bar code reader like the Palltronic® bar code reader.
