Empowering Sustainability: Insights from Christine Jasmin, R&D Scientist
In celebration of Earth Day 2025, we are thrilled to feature Christine Jasmin, a dedicated leader of the Pall Green Team and an R&D Scientist with Pall Corporation’s Chemistry team. Based out of our headquarters in Port Washington, Christine has been with Pall for three years, contributing significantly to our sustainability initiatives and scientific advancements. Her passion for green practices and innovative research makes her an inspiring figure in our community. Join us as Christine shares her insights on sustainability, the importance of Earth Day, and her impactful journey at Pall Corporation.
Why is sustainability important? In your opinion, what is something that we can do today, that will affect our sustainability efforts in the future?
Sustainability is crucial because it prompts us to ask, "What kind of world do I want to leave behind?" It reminds us that the choices we make today will shape the world for decades to come. On an individual level, it encourages us to be role models and resources on all things "green" for our communities. Personally, I grow food locally, recycle household products, and shop at thrift stores instead of fast fashion outlets.
As a Pall associate, we consider the long-term impact of our choices in the lab. We ask questions such as, "What solvent alternatives are available that have equal performance?" and "How can we optimize the lifetime of our products?" Keeping these questions at the forefront of our product lifecycle is essential to achieving our sustainability goal of reducing our product carbon footprint.
What does the Earth Day 2025 theme of “Our Power, Our Planet” mean to you?
This year’s theme emphasizes unity. It highlights how our actions, whether at an individual or corporate level, have not just local but global impacts. Individuals can amplify the importance of this work by investing in companies that make greener choices. Organizations must do their part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, whether through the advantages of solar energy or reinvesting funds into cleaner energy sources like green hydrogen. I am proud to see our Energy+ BU focusing on this market.
How is Pall celebrating Earth Day 2025?
We are encouraging all associates to celebrate Earth Week both at work and at home. Our Earth Week Bingo reminds us to reflect on our energy consumption through the foods we eat and the clothes we choose to buy versus thrift. We are hosting donation boxes for local shelters and organizing community clean-ups. Most importantly, we are emphasizing the importance of green energy by spotlighting the efforts our Energy+ associates have invested in the production of green hydrogen.
But it doesn’t stop there. As a leader of the associate-led sustainability organization called “Pall Green Team,” we host educational seminars at local schools, volunteer in community oyster gardening programs, and much more. I am grateful to work with a company that allows me to invest time in this meaningful work.
What has been the most impactful moment for you here at Pall?
It’s a tough selection. I’ve had the pleasure of working in media evaluation of internal and external products, purification, and more recently, metrology optimization projects. My experience with purification projects holds a special interest because I've been most fully vested in the complete pathway. From the initial ligand screening to device build and customer testing, I’ve played a functional role in the media functionalization work from media sheet scale to roll format production. I am proud of all that we have achieved, and I eagerly await further feedback from our key stakeholders on future advancements of this project.
What are you passionate about outside of the office?
I love music and dance. I learned Ballet and African dance in middle school and was instantly hooked. I enjoy the breadth and depth of emotion that movement can evoke in ways that words cannot. It’s been a constant feature in my life, from dancing with Big Red Raas, to my Latin dance team, Sabor Latino, in college to strolling with my sorority at campus events. Today, I have taken classes in dance styles like Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Raas, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Kizomba, Jazz, and more! There is nothing like it!
